Jo Malone London Blackberry & Bay - The Perfect Autumnal Fragrance
It's been a little while since I've done a fragrance review and I've wanted to write about this beautiful scent for a while now but knew that it would be much better suited to this time of year when the leaves are just about to start turning red on the trees and the fruit in the orchards and hedgerows are ripening. When I smell Jo Malone London Blackberry & Bay I am transported back to my childhood and collecting blackberries with my Grandmother every year so that she could use them to make delicious pies and crumbles.
However, it's not the smell of the buttery, sugary treats that this fragrance conjures up but rather the fresh berries themselves hanging plump and juicy on the bush. There is none of the sickly sweetness that you might expect from a fruity scent. It has top notes of blackberry and grapefruit which give it a sharpness but it's the notes of bay leaves and vetiver which give it the fresh, green quality that makes this fragrance so special. This, combined with the base note of cedarwood, results in a scent which truly does smell like the English countryside in Autumn. For me it’s like that cosy, familiar cashmere cardie that you can’t wait to snuggle up in again when the weather starts to turn chillier.
If you like a heady fragrance which really packs a punch and makes people sit and up and take notice then perhaps Blackberry & Bay isn’t for you. It is a fairly soft and subtle fragrance which delicately lingers around the wearer with no headache inducing projection. In spite of its lightness I find that it lasts quite well and even when I think it’s become undetectable I still get comments from other people about how nice I smell. This fragrance was the first thing that I purchased from Jo Malone London and my introduction to this gorgeous brand. I love how unique and diverse their range of scents is with something that will appeal to everyone. Many of their fragrances are also completely unisex with my husband and I both equally happy to wear them.
At the time of writing the Jo Malone London Blackberry & Bay Cologne is £47 for 30ml and £94 for 100ml HERE.
